Mary-Louise Parker

Mary-Louise Parker, born August 2 1964 was an American actress. Following her Broadway debut as Rita in Craig Lucas's Prelude to a Kiss in 1990 (for which she won an Tony Award nomination), Parker came to prominence for roles in films such as Grand Canyon (1991), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Client (1994), Bullets over Broadway (1994), A Place for Annie (1994), Boys on the Side (1995), The Portrait of a Lady (1996) and The Maker (1997). Among stage and independent film appearances in the following years, Parker received the 2001 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her performance in Catherine Llewellyn in David Auburn's Proof in addition to other awards. In the NBC television show The West Wing she starred as Amy Gardner, and was nominated for an Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Sustained Actress in the Drama Series. She was awarded a Golden Globe and a Primetime Emmy Award for her performance of Harper Pitt in the acclaimed HBO miniseries Angels in America in 2003.Parker went on to enjoy large successes as Nancy Botwin, the lead character of the TV series Weeds which was on from 2005 until 2012. She was awarded three nominations for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in the field of Comedy Series between 2007 and 2009 and was awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2006.Her other film roles include her roles in The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008), Red (2010), R.I.P.D. (2013) as well as Red 2 (2012). Parker was back on Broadway to play the lead role in The Sound Inside in 2019, for which she won her second Tony Award as Best Actress in a Play. Parker has written articles for Esquire magazine since 2007. She also wrote Dear Mr. You in 2015. In 2017, she appeared in the role of Roma Guy on the ABC television miniseries called When We Rise. She was a consultant for the political world on the Showtime show Billions in 2018.
