Katey Sagal
An extremely gifted multifaceted
performer who excels at both comedy and drama as well as singing and acting,
Katey Sagal became a household name in the 1980s as the fabulously brazen,
undomesticated Peg Bundy in the long-running Fox show Married... with Children
(1987). During the long run of the series she was nominated two times for the
American Comedy Award and three Golden Globes. As well-known and well-known as
her Peg Bundy persona was, Katey assertively moved on when the show ended its
run on the air, not only acting in TV shows and sitcoms as well as playing
characters that were complete opposites to the outrageous character that first
earned her nationwide recognition. In 2008, for instance, she took on the role
as Gemma Teller Morrow, the mother of the Hell'sAngels-like California biker
gang, in the show Sons of Anarchy (2008), and in 2011 her portrayal earned her
the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an Actress in the TV
Series--Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal is the daughter of Sara Zwilling
(director and singer) and Boris Sagal (film and television director). Born in
Los Angeles, she started performing when she was five years old. She was a
vocalist and studied acting at the California Institute of the Arts. As
waitress, she started singing with "The Group Without a Name" and
later was able to break into Gene Simmons' 1970s rock group KISS. She also
gained valuable experience as a backup singer for Simmons as well as other
famous artists such as Bob Dylan and Etta James. In the role of one of Bette
Midler's "Harlettes", she was also dynamic when she performed live
with her in Bette’s avant-garde stage shows that took place in the late 1970s
to early 1980s.
